DVCNews Debates: Rental cancellation policy

mt_ignore:DVCNews DebatesRenting Disney Vacation Club points is a great option for non-owners to save money on their Disney hotel accommodations.  Renting points from an owner can often yield savings of 50-75% off Disney's rack rates.  But one of the most obvious drawbacks is a restrictive cancellation policy.  Given the point usage guidelines inherent to DVC, many renters have absolute non-cancellation policies, with the buyer advised to consider travel insurance.

DVCNews Debates: Best rental approach

mt_ignore:DVCNews Debates For the first 15-20 years of Disney Vacation Club's existence, owners looking to rent excess points had to do all of the legwork themselves.  Listings could be posted to a number of sites including the DISBoards or eBay, looking for non-members willing to rent for a fixed price.

More recently services like DVCRequest.com have emerged.  These rental brokers pair up the owners and non-owners, requiring much less work for the owner while taking a portion of the rental proceeds.

DVCNews Debates: Best View

mt_ignore:DVCNews Debates There are many different balcony views offered by the various Disney Vacation Club properties.  Theme park views at the Grand Californian and Bay Lake Tower...the savannah at Animal Kingdom Villas...beach views at Vero and Aulani...pleasant waterways at Saratoga Springs and Disney's BoardWalk...among others.

DVCNews Debates: Resale restrictions

mt_ignore:DVCNews DebatesIn 2011 Disney Vacation Club introduced a number of restrictions on points purchased via the resale market.  Most notably, resale points cannot be used to book most non-DVC destinations including Disney cruises.

At the time, some owners were openly critical of the move, claiming that it can only harm owners and contract resale values.  Others view it as a modest perk which benefits those who buy direct.

DVCNews Debates: Next DVC

mt_ignore:DVCNews Debates

This is not the first time we've debated this topic and it won't be the last.  Impressions seem to change frequently over time.

With Disney's Polynesian Villas creeping ever closer to completion, it's time to begin pondering where they will next break ground.  Among the most popular rumors are a DVC hotel on the Ft. Wilderness campground, a second Contemporary tower, another Disneyland property, Disney's Yacht Club, a new stand-alone property and even conversion of a Walt Disney World Moderate-class resort.
