DVCNews Debates: RTU Good or Bad

mt_ignore:DVCNews DebatesOne of the more unique aspects of Disney Vacation Club ownership is the pre-defined "Right-To-Use" dates.  Most timeshares feature an unlmited ownership duration, with buyers able to keep their purchase in the family for generations to come.  DVC is one of the few with a stated end date on which the contract ends and ownership reverts back to Disney.

Some consider the RTU aspect to be a detriment since all DVC purchases will eventually be valueless...null and void.  Others view the RTU as a benefit since it eliminates the financial burden from relatives; children and grandchildren are not obligated to pay for upkeep on a decades-old piece of property.

DVCNews Debates: Renovation Tolerance

mt_ignore:DVCNews DebatesNews continues to circulate regarding the extent of the renovations occurring at Disney's Polynesian Resort.  Over the next 12-18 months, various resort amenities will be closed for extended periods or dramatically altered.  Included are the resort lobby, guest rooms, main pool. dining facilties, child care center, beaches and more.

This work raises the question of how willing guests are to tolerate renovations during their resort stays.  Updates to pools, dining and even guest rooms are quite frequent for a vacation destination which operates 24 / 7 / 365.  Does resort construction work prompt a change in destination?  Change in travel dates?  No changes at all?

DVCNews Debates: More concierge?

mt_ignore:DVCNews Debates

Only one Disney Vacation Club resort has the option to book a villa which includes access to concierge amenities:  Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas.  Inclusion of this amenity was largely a function of club level floors at the Jambo House facility being added to the DVC program.  With only 5 villas bookable as concierge accommodations, few members can actually enjoy this amenity.  Night point costs which run 20-60% higher than comparable non-concierge rooms make it a costly perk to add.

Yet cash guests often pay a premium rate for club level rooms with access to day-long food and beverage services, trip planning assistance and more.

DVCNews Debates: Owner outlook

mt_ignore:DVCNews Debates

Generally speaking, there seems to be a couple different philosophies adopted by different Disney Vacation Club members:

"I am Disney's most loyal guest.  I deserve to be given extra perks and benefits due to my dedication and enormous financial investment in Disney Vacation Club."

...or...

"DVC has allowed me to secure enormous discounts on Disney accommodations for up to 50 years.  While it would be nice to receive extra perks, I don't feel that Disney owes me anything else."

DVCNews Debates: Studio capacity increase

mt_ignore:DVCNews Debates

Disney designers have changed their philosophy toward Deluxe Studio villas, expanding the sleeping capacity from 4 to 5 individuals.  So far this change has impacted the newest DVC resort at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and the recently-renovated Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge.

While the higher sleeping capacity is a plus for many guests, other compromises have been made.  At the Grand Floridian, the pull-down twin bed replaces the large armoire typically used by Studio guests to store their clothing.  At the Wilderness Lodge, the twin bed was accommodated by adding a somewhat awkward collapsable table to villas.

Topic:  Do you like the increased sleeping capacity of some Deluxe Studio villas?  Or, is it a poor trade-off for other compromises made in the villa design?
