DVCNews Debates: International parks

mt_ignore:DVCNews Debates

While the six Disney Theme Parks located in Florida and California are fairly accessible to those living in North America, there are five other Disney parks located outside of the United States.  Two parks in Tokyo, two in Paris and one in Hong Kong plus a Shanghai resort complex scheduled to open in 2016.

Each of these parks offers unique attractions, surroundings and culture all its own.  Of course, the usual pitfalls of international travel also apply:  different languages, currency, customs. etc.

DVCNews Debates: "Walking" reservations

mt_ignore:DVCNews DebatesA method of securing early Disney Vacation Club reservations dubbed "walking" has been gaining popularity in some circles.  The process entails booking a room days or weeks ahead of the intended arrival.  Trip dates are then gradually altered with nights cancelled on the front end (to free-up the points) and added on the back-end.

Owners who "walk" reservations are justifiably using their own points and operating within the parameters of current rules.  However, some may view this process as an unintended loophole which gives select owners an unfair advantage.  It allows owners to temporarily hold availability they have no intention of utilizing, and increases traffic at DVC Member Services due to the multiple modifications made to reservations.

DVCNews Debates: Favorite Marvel film

mt_ignore:DVCNews DebatesDisney's 2009 purchase of Marvel Entertainment has been an unqualified success for the media giant.  They've launched successful film and TV franchises around both core comic characters like Iron Man and Captain America, as well as marginal properties like 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy.

The latest Marvel release--Avengers: Age of Ultron--is well on its way to similar success with a $180+ million opening weekend in the U.S. and over $400 million internationally.  Such returns have demonstrated that the films appeal to both core comic book fans and casual viewers alike.

DVCNews Debates: AKV room location

mt_ignore:DVCNews DebatesDisney's Animal Kingdom Villas is one of the most diverse properties in the program.  Its rooms are spread over six floors in two separate buildings, four different room classes or "views", and they overlook a variety of distinct savannas.

DVCNews Debates: Best Studio

mt_ignore:DVCNews DebatesWe have done this "debate" topic in the past but it seems worth revisiting from time-to-time given periodic changes to the program.

Deluxe Studio villas are quite a mixed bag across the 13 DVC properties. Most feature a queen-size bed plus sofabed but some have two queen beds.  Several resorts are being retrofitted with a twin-sleeper for a 5th guest.  Newer properites like the Polynesian and Grand Floridian have a split bathroom setup.
