DVCNews Debates: Website upgrade

mt_ignore:DVCNews Debates

Over the years DVCMember.com has received a host of improvements.  Online funcationality allows owners nearly round-the-clock access to make reservations, pay annual dues, check point balances, bank points and so on.  The most recent addition--the Resort Availability Tool--gives owners a snapshot of vacancies across a wide range of resorts, dates and room classes.

But the site is far from perfect.  Among the noteworthy features not supported are making changes to existing reservations, transferring points, purchasing one-time-use points and making cash reservations with the DVC owner discount.

DVCNews Debates: Disney Vacation Account

mt_ignore:DVCNews Debates

More than a year ago, Disney started the Disney Vacation Account program.  Similar to old Christmas Club accounts, participants can schedule regular withdrawls from their checking or savings account to help fund the Disney Vacation Account.  It is seemingly designed to give Disney theme park fans a way to save for their expensive vacations rather than experiencing credit card sticker shock.

Disney currently offers a funding bonus of $20 for every $1000 used (2%.)  However, funds do not earn any interest and they cannot be used for Disney Vacation Club point purchases or Annual dues payments.

DVCNews Debates: Niche accommodations

mt_ignore:DVCNews Debates

Disney Vacation Club has a number of unique, niche accommodations throughout the program.  Options like the Beach Cottages at Disney's Vero Beach Resort, Treehouse Villas at Saratoga Springs and Polynesian Bungalows offer premium amenities for a premium price.  And it appears a number of smaller cabin-like structures will soon be added to the Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge Resort.

Question: Is there some other current or prospective DVC property where you would like to see new niche villa accommodations?

DVCNews Debates: Resort Sampling

mt_ignore:DVCNews Debates

Several Disney Vacation Club accommodations are simply not affordable to most members...at least not for an extended stay. Things like Grand Villas, club level rooms at Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas and the new bungalows at Disney's Polynesian Villas could command many years worth of the typical owner's points for a weeklong stay.

But they are a bit more affordable for just a night or two.

Question: Would you ever deliberately book a short stay in some high-priced accommodation just to sample it?

DVCNews Debates: Disney Springs additions

As Walt Disney World's shopping district continues its transformation from Downtown Disney to Disney Springs, dozens of new shops and restaurants will be added.  Among the most recent vendor announcements are Tommy Bahama, Ugg, Zara and UNIQLO.    New dining outlets will include Edison (inspired by L.A.'s "The Edison"), Sprinkles cupcake bakery and Blaze Fast-Fire'd Pizza.

While these vendors are not as commonplace as a local Eddie Bauer or Applebee's, most are neither exclusive to the Disney shopping plaza nor do they carry any specific Disney theme or feel.
