Disney has begun renovating another Walt Disney World property with upgrades that may include a new transportation option and Disney Vacation Club villas.
Website LaughingPlace.com reports that construction has begun in earnest at Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort. Earlier this year Disney confirmed that updates were planned, with the Centertown shopping and dining district scheduled to close at the end of April. Photos posted to LaughingPlace showcase the closure of Shutters restaurant, along with construction staging including the installation of fencing and scrims to mask the work zone.
Permits previously filed suggest that several existing guest room buildings in the Barbados section would be demolished to make way for a new structure, potentially designed to house DVC timeshare villas. In February Disney confirmed plans to update the shopping and dining facilities at Caribbean Beach but no specifics were shared. To date, Disney has neither confirmed nor denied any DVC involvement in this project.
Numerous sources indicate that Caribbean Beach will eventually serve as the hub for a new gondola-based transportation system linking the resort to both Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios.
Another Moderate hotel--Disney's Coronado Springs Resort--is also in the early stages of a signification expansion. A 15-story tower will be constructed, housing 500 new rooms and a rooftop restaurant.
