Grand Floridian Big Pine Key Villa Conversion to Begin March 1

On March 1, 2022, crews will begin work to add 202 new Disney Vacation Club Villas to Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.

Grand Floridian Resort Studio

Back in May 2021, Disney revealed plans to convert more than 200 hotel rooms at the Grand Floridian to new Resort Studios for the company's timeshare program. Construction work is now set to begin on March 1 at the resort's Big Pine Key building.

An operational update has been published for the resort:

Starting March 1, 2022, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa will undergo refurbishment. Guests may see or hear construction during daytime hours. Most Resort hotel amenities will remain available. Please allow for additional travel time.

Similar notices have been provided to travel agents, confirming that work largely impacts the Big Pine Key building. Construction barriers, equipment and materials should be expected on-site during the conversion.

Disney Vacation Club recently filed paperwork to add half of the new rooms to the Grand Floridian Condominium Association. The combined association will provide owners with equal booking rights for the original DVC building, consisting of more than 100 Deluxe Studio, One Bedroom, Two Bedroom and Three Bedroom Grand Villas, along with the new Resort Studios.

The Resort Studios are expected to exceed 400 sq ft, equipped with two queen beds, a pull-down twin bed, bathroom and other standard amenities. Resort Studios are not expected to include the typical DVC kitchenette, opting instead for a simple beverage cooler.

The Big Pine Key Resort Studios are expected to open in summer 2022. Sales may begin at any time, however exact dates and prices have not been revealed.
