Lewis receives letter of recommendation

General DVC News

Former Disney Vacation Club President Jim Lewis has reportedly received a letter of recommendation from the company and offer of a consulting position.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that Disney Parks chairman Tom Staggs has provided Lewis with a generous letter of recommendation.  Lewis left The Walt Disney Company in August 2011 following the discovery of accounting irregularities at its Hawaii-based Aulani resort project.

Staggs' letter suggests that Lewis made the decision to leave.  The Sentinel quotes the following passage:

"On June 22, 2011, Jim's longtime boss and mentor, Al Weiss, president of worldwide operations for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, announced his retirement from Disney. On Aug. 12, Jim left the company but has agreed to make himself available to us as a consultant."

Despite Lewis' apparent offer to serve in a consultant role,  there is no indication that Disney intends to avail itself of that opportunity.

Speculation is that the letter of recommendation is tied to a settlement designed to avoid any legal action on Lewis' part due to the nature of his departure.
