According to an article in Hotels magazine, many timeshare executives and members of the American Resorts Development Association are pleased with sales figures during tight economy.
This week saw the opening of the Hilton / Waldorf Astoria resort complex within the Bonnet Creek development. Bonnet Creek is immediately adjacent to Walt Disney World (near Caribbean Beach Resort) and is also home to non-Disney timeshare units operated by Wyndham.

In 2009 Disney Vacation Club moved its exchange affiliation from Interval International to RCI. One benefactor from the move has been competing timeshare developer Wyndham Worldwide Corp, owner of Group RCI.
The Florida state House and Senate have approved a measure shielding timeshare trades and promotional stays from taxes, while reaffirming the taxability of timeshare accommodations rented for cash. Additionally the bill gives developers the right to sell debt cancellation policies which allow buyers to walk away from the timeshare purchase in the event of a job loss or other economic hardship.
