Clarification on New Banking Rule Implementation

DVC Policies & Procedures

DISBoards member "drusba" had the foresight to contact DVC for clarification on how the new banking guidelines will be implemented.  They had previously announced that the new rule (ability to bank 100% of points in first eight months of Use Year) would be implemented on January 1, 2008.  But does that mean it applies across-the-board on that date or goes into effect with 2008 Use Years?

According to the information provided by DVC, the change impacts all point banking, regardless of Use Year, beginning on January 1st.  Banking transactions performed through December 31, 2007 will be subject to the old rules, while transactions performed after January 1 will be subject to the new rules.

To illustrate, let's look at a member with a June Use Year.  Under the current ("old") rules, a June Use Year is subject to the following banking restrictions:

  • 100% of points by November 30 (6 mos)
  • 50% of points by February 28/29 (9 mos)
  • 25% of points by March 31 (10 mos)

Under the January 1 "new" guidelines, the rule will be as follows:

  • 100% of points by January 31 (8 mos)

As such, a member with a June UY would only be able to bank 50% of his points in December '07 because he would be subject to the "old" rules.  However, when the "new" rules go into effect in January '08, that same member would again have until 1/31 to bank 100% of his points.

Keep in mind that this is a one-time transition and that not all Use Years will be impacted as described above.  We've added banking reminders to the "Dateline DVC" calendar on this site's Home Page which should accurately reflect the policy in place on each given day.
