Despite internal confusion, Disney Vacation Club reiterates that all refrigerators in its villa units are functioning normally and available for guest use.
In July 2013 Disney announced that refrigerators in many of its guest rooms were subject to a recall and replacement would take up to four months. A Disney Vacation Club spokesperson stated that the recall applied to units specifically purchased for Disney hotel rooms, not the larger refrigerators available in DVC villas.
In the meantime, some members have reported recieving letters stating that they may be without a refrigerator during an upcoming DVC resort stay. Reader Morgan C. forwarded us a copy of one letter dated August 2013 which states that they "became aware of an issue that effects to of the refrigerator models in our guest rooms" and that they were forced to "disconnect the affected in-room refrigerators until replacements can be installed."
DVCNews.com again reached out to a Disney Vacation Club representative for clarification.
It turns out that this letter referencing refrigerator disconnection was inadvertently sent to some members. DVC reassures us that villa refrigerators are not included in the recall. The notification was merely a clerical error.
