Walt Disney World's paid FastPass+ replacements will make their debut in all four theme parks beginning on October 19, 2021.
In less than 2 weeks, the Lightning Lanes will open as Genie+ and Individual Attraction Purchases arrive at Walt Disney World. Priced at $15 per person, per day, Genie+ offers FastPass-style line cutting access to more than 40 attractions across the four parks. Using their smartphones, guests will be able to reserve a ride window on many of the more popular attractions including Splash Mountain, Test Track, Slinky Dog Dash and Kilimanjaro Safari.
Guests will be able to add Genie+ to their plans either prior to arrival or same-day. Genie+ ride reservations begin at 7:00am and cannot be reserved in advance. Those with park hopping privileges will be able to use Genie+ across multiple parks in a single day.
It is unclear exactly what type of experience Genie+ will ultimately provide. Disney has not revealed any data on how long guests can expect to wait between Lightning Lane reservations and whether there is a chance of certain attractions exhausting their daily supply of ride reservations.
Also available on October 19 are Individual Attraction Purchases. Arguably the top two attractions at each theme park will not be available via the $15 Genie+ purchase. Instead, guests must purchase a separate single-ride reservation. Prices quoted by Disney range from $7 to $15 for the one ride, though rates are subject to change on a daily basis. Among the rides available only for single Lightning Lane purchase are:
- Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
- Space Mountain
- Frozen Ever After
- Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure
- Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway
- Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance
- Avatar Flight of Passage
- Expedition Everest
Once purchased, individual ride times may not be changed and are not eligible for refunds.
Guests who do not wish to purchase either Genie+ or Individual Attractions may still use the standard Genie technology. Disney claims the Genie planning technology will enable guests to make the most efficient use of time by scheduling a touring plan around their preferred attractions. The complimentary level of Genie service requires use of attraction standby lines. Some attractions may be unavailable via standby, like Remy's Ratatouille Adventure which currently requires either a virtual queue boarding pass or paid attraction purchase to ride.
Disney Vacation Club has not announced any unique Genie+ benefits for its members or guests.
Genie+ and Individual Attraction Purchases are also planned for launch soon at Disneyland with a base price of $20 per person, per day.
