In late 2022, Disney began the process of adding  'Hey, Disney' personal assistants to hotel rooms and villas. One of the first resorts to receive the units is the Polynesian

Upon arrival, units should be in a configuration mode waiting for new guest interaction. The unit's microphone is muted with an indicator LED prominently displayed on top. Tapping on the screen will begin a brief introductory video, explaining some of the personal assistant's features.

Also nearby is a bifold card containing similar details. Among the information guests can obtain via the voice assistant are:

  • Theme park operating hours
  • Weather
  • Resort information
  • Jokes and trivia
  • Stories and music
  • Fireworks times
  • Resort service requests (like asking for addtional blankets)

The device is also tied into the full Amazon Alexa ecosystem. While many Disney-specific requests will feature responses with clever Disney animation and character appearances, more generic requests can be referred to Alexa for a traditional response.

Below is a demonstration video of Hey, Disney responding to requests for daily weather forecast, theme park hours and "tell me a joke." In this instance, the theme park hours request was referred to Alexa. During other trials, the device seemed to remain in its standard "Disney" mode while responding.

The personal assistants are expected to be added to all Walt Disney World hotel rooms and villas. No timeline has been announced for specific locations. Their use is optional, but free to all guests.
