In the summer of 1996, Disney Vacation Club finally got back into the near-theme park business with the opening of Disney's BoardWalk Villas.  The second DVC property at Walt Disney World was added to the charming Crescent Lake area, giving members easy access to the Epcot theme park via its rear International Gateway entrance.  Between the charming location and nightly point costs equal or nominally higher than Disney's Old Key West Resort, BoardWalk is often mentioned as a favorite of owners.

Remember when the off-site Disney Vacation Club resorts outnumbered those adjacent to theme parks?  No?  Well, that was the case for a few months in early 1996 following the opening of Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort.  

The Atlantic seaboard community is split between the inner island resort and a Beach House on the coast.  With multiple pools, restaurants, Community Hall and many resort activity programs, the Hilton Head property has a lot to offer its guests.

Let's take a brief detour from our current best/worst resort series to tackle a timely subject.  The full extent of Walt Disney World's beach alterations and policy changes is now seemingly known.  Beaches have reopened, but with daily operating hours.  Fences and new signage are in place.
