Guests at one Disney Vacation Club resort are now being presented with an option to "check out" of their guest room via the My Disney Experience app.
Website Allears.net is reporting that guests at Disney's Riviera Resort can now alert staff to their departure using the Disney smartphone app. The option is available to guests who have a credit card linked to their reservation and a zero balance on the check-out day. Guests will be automatically checked-out at 11:00am or they can sign into the app to indicate their departure time if leaving sooner.
Unlike other hotel chains, Disney has never offered guests an electronic check-out option. Instead, outgoing guests were presumed to have departed by 11:00am with a charge folio either delivered to the room overnight or emailed to the address on file.
For many years, Disney resorts had access to some guest departure data via Disney's Magical Express reservations. The complimentary airport transportation service was discontinued at the end of 2021.
Ideally, guest departure information would be shared with housekeeping, allowing them to begin servicing rooms which have been vacated before 11:00am.
Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort is also reportedly participating in the test. There is no word on when or if it will expand to other locations.
