Many Disney Vacation Club members have been waiting for confirmation that the new Island Tower being constructed on Seven Seas Lagoon will be part of the existing condominium association for Disney's Polynesian Villas & Bungalows. They may finally be getting their wish.

In a new filing made on May 24, 2024, Disney has requested that the timeshare license for the Polynesian Villas & Bungalows be amended to add 11,322 timeshare weeks, which is the equivalent of 222 vacation homes. The request is currently under review by the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation and, barring any unforeseen circumstances, should be approved within a few days.

By amending the existing timeshare license it assures that all current future owners of Polynesian points will have 11-month booking access to both the original 360 Deluxe Studios and 20 Bungalows and to all the vacation homes in the new Island Tower.

Recent information suggested there would be 268 rooms in Island Tower. The difference between the 268 room count and this 222 number may have to do with how lockoff villas are counted. Lockoff rooms can be booked either as a large Two Bedroom villa or portioned out separately as a One Bedroom and a Deluxe Studio. The exact number of villas should become clearer as the building's opening approaches.

The amendment to the Polynesian’s timeshare license must be approved before Disney can begin selling points. No other information is available regarding point charts or price per point.

Not all 222 vacation homes will be immediately declared into the condominium association. Before sales begins, a portion of those rooms will be made available to members booking with points, while the rest will be held back for Disney to sell to cash guests. Disney Vacation Club previously announced that members can make cash reservations for Island Tower beginning on June 4, 2024. A specific opening date has not yet been revealed, but it is believed to be sometime in December 2024.
