On June 20, 2022, Disney Vacation Club added more than 200 new villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.
Studio rooms are unquestionably the most sought-after rooms throughout the DVC program. At the start of a massive resort-wide refurbishment (which still continues today) 202 hotel rooms in the Grand Floridian's Big Pine Key building were converted to villas and added to the existing condominium association.
The rooms are a rather unique design. Foregoing the typical bed + sofa bed configuration of most DVC Deluxe Studio rooms, these new "Resort Studios" feature two queen beds and a flip-over sofa to sleep up to 5 guests. Many have accused Disney of taking a cheap approach with this conversion, an accusation which is difficult to dispute. DVC had not introduced a studio room with two queen beds since Disney's Old Key West Resort and Disney's Vero Beach Resort nearly 30 years prior.
The Resort Studios were also criticized for lacking the typical kitchenette. While the were equipped with a "beverage cooler" and a Keurig coffee maker, they lack typical DVC studio features like the microwave, toaster and freezer compartment. The microwave was quickly retrofitted to the rooms shortly after opening.
The rooms do feature a large bathroom with a combination tub and shower, a dressing table and elegant decor fitting the Grand Floridian resort.
