Although the Disney Vacation Club guest rooms were all refurbished between late 2021 and mid 2022, Disney's Grand Floridian Resort will continue to receive a variety of updates well into 2024.
For more than 2 years, crews have been updating most aspects of the Grand Floridian. First, all guest rooms in the orignal Disney Vacation Club building were refurbished. That was followed by updates to all 5 free-standing guest buildings, beginning with the new DVC rooms in Big Pine Key.
In mid 2023 work moved into the Main Building. Although interior work paused to make room for the popular Gingerbread House (above) and other holiday displays, crews are using the winter months to address many areas of the building exterior.
From the monorail platform (below), construction walls are visible down at ground level.
Scaffolding and construction crews are clearly visible on the upper floors as the roof is replaced, and siding repaired and repainted.
All along the back of the building, lifts are raised and lowered as needed to help accommodate workers.
The walkway leading from Grand Floridian Cafe toward Gasparilla Island Grill is obstructed by construction walls as crews work nearby.
From the walkway near the DVC building, workers and more scaffolding can be seen renovating upper floors of the building exterior. Additional walls surround the Main Building nearest the Beach Pool.
Disney has not provided any indication of how much longer the work may take to complete. In fact, some believe that after the holiday season, additional renovations will begin again inside the resort's main lobby. At this time, all resort amenities, shops and restaurants are operating normally, with the exception of 1900 Park Fare which has not reopened following the COVID-19 pandemic.
