Disney Vacation Club room availability continues to provide some insight on the refurbishment timeline for Disney's BoardWalk Villas.
Several months ago it was revealed that all BoardWalk View rooms at Disney's BoardWalk Villas will be removed from service beginning September 9, 2023. This removal currently extends all the way to November 23, a period of about 6 weeks during which all of the Deluxe Studio, One, Two and Three Bedroom villas are listed as unavailable.
Although Disney Vacation Club has not provided any clarity on the situation, the working theory is that crews will be conducting massive exterior work on the resort during this period. Scaffolding, use of power tools and other exterior disruptions likely leave the villas uninhabitable during renovations.
Beginning January 1, 2024, a similar block is occurring on all Standard View rooms at the resort. Standard View villas are located along the entrance drive to the west of the Porte Cochere, as well as the southernmost face of the resort overlooking the valet parking lot.
Standard View rooms are blocked off for the entirety of January and February, and they are poised to make a return starting March 1, 2024.
So far there have been no wholesale blocks on Garden / Pool View rooms. The Garden / Pool View category is much larger, with the likelihood that crews could preform exterior work in smaller sections while leaving many rooms available for guest use.
These closures do not necessarily signal when the guest room interiors will be updated. All villas are due for a full refurbishment, which may include updates to bathroom fixtures and kitchen cabinets & appliances, as well as new flooring, wall coverings, furniture and more. Installaiton of pull-down sofabeds in villa living rooms is also expected.
Updates to room interiors will likely be spread over a greater period of time. Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge is currently in the final stages of a full refurbishment that began back in September 2022. Disney's BoardWalk Villas has about 3 times as many rooms as Boulder Ridge.
Back in 2016, Disney's BoardWalk Villas underwent a lighter refurbishment project which still took nearly a year to complete. However the duration will be heavily dependent upon the volume of resources dedicated to the project. Expect crews to close down entire floors or wings of the villas to minimize the impact on guests. At a minimum, guests should expect significant work beginning around the resort in September 2023 and continuing at least into mid 2024.
