Disney has a had a couple of new additions to its savannas in recent weeks--one of whom will share his name with the new Kidani Village facility at Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas

According to website Allearsnet.com, Disney has added a female giraffe named Makena and a male zebra named Kidnai to its herds.  From Allearsnet:

Kidani was named for the new expansion of Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas, which will be named Kidani Village. The zebra currently weighs approximately 65 pounds and stands three and a half feet tall. Kidani's been known to kick up his heels and run around the yard, with his watchful mother Kari, nearby. As an adult male, Kidani could reach 800 pounds, and stand five feet tall.

Additional information was recently posted to the official Disney Vacation Club website:

Kidani Village, the new string of Disney Vacation Club accommodations now under construction at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, inspired Disney's Animal Care team to name its new baby zebra (pictured above) Kidani.

Born on March 8, Kidani is the first Hartmann's Mountain Zebra born at the Walt Disney World Resort. The Hartmann Mountain Zebra is an endangered species native to Angola, Namibia and South Africa. Kidani's birth came through the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) Population Management Plan, in which a consortium of zoos and wildlife parks work together to conserve and breed animals.

The zebra currently weighs about 65 pounds and stands three-and-a-half feet tall. Animal Keepers already are reporting that Kidani enjoys kicking up his heels and running around the yard, with his watchful mother, Cari, nearby. As an adult male, Kidani could reach 800 pounds and stand five feet tall.

Kidani's birth follows that of Makena, a new female giraffe. Makena, which means "Happy One" in Swahili, was born on Leap Day, Feb. 29. At birth, Makena weighed 118 pounds and stood five feet, 6 inches tall.

Both mothers and babies are doing well and are expected to rejoin their herds on the savanna at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge soon.
