The buffet meal / character experience at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort will reportedly close at the end of the year.
Website WDWMagic.com is reporting that Mickey's Backyard BBQ will suspend its run on December 31, 2018. The closure is linked to upcoming construction planned for the resort.
Fort Wilderness has been targeted as the future home to Disney Vacation Club villas dating back to 2010. Work on that concept was later suspended, but the concept has been revived in the last few months. Permit applications from February 2018 and May 2018 pave the way for new construction on Fort Wilderness grounds.
Per WDWMagic, the Backyard BBQ will return at some point in the future.
Work continues on Disney's Riviera Resort, the fifteenth DVC property. Disney is reportedly targeting a fall 2019 opening, though brisk sales of Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney's Wilderness Lodge may prompt an accelleration of original timelines.
