"EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION" HELPS A FAMILY WITH A BLIND AND DISABLED SON WHO HAS OVERCOME MULTIPLE CHALLENGES TO ACHIEVE HIS GOALS AS A MUSICIAN AND INSPIRING LEADER |
"Hughes Family" -- The Hughes family of Louisville, KY has received the thrilling news that Ty and the gang will renovate their house and make it a safer and more accessible home for their blind and disabled son in a remarkable seven days, in a special two-hour episode of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 17 (8:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. Patricia and Patrick John Hughes' eldest son, Patrick Henry (19), was born blind and without the ability to fully straighten his arms and legs, leaving him unable to walk. Despite circumstances that seem overwhelming, Patrick Henry has exhibited great strength and a positive attitude in achieving his goals: Not only is he an amazing pianist, having played since he was nine months old, but he also excels at the trumpet and singing. A member of the University of Louisville School of Music Marching and Pep Band, with help from his father Patrick Henry tirelessly maneuvers his wheelchair through the formations with the other 220+ band members. He's has been honored for his triumphs and has been featured on ESPN, "Good Morning America," "World News with Charles Gibson" and in Sports Illustrated. He was also the winner of the 2006 Disney Wide World of Sports Spirit Award. Patrick Henry is a true inspiration, both to those his age and to adults. Being in a wheelchair, it's difficult for Patrick Henry to maneuver through the Hughes' humble home. The chair has done extensive damage to the walls, and the house is now desperately in need of help. With a big hole in their bank account resulting from Patrick John's decision to stay at home and tend to his son's special needs, house repairs are the last priority on the Hughes' agenda. Now it's up to Ty and the gang to give this energetic and supportive family the dream home they deserve! While Ty and the designers, local builder Elite Homes and the hundreds of volunteers and workers are rebuilding their home, the Hughes family will go to London courtesy of Disney Vacation Club.
