DVCNews Debates: Moderate / Value DVC

mt_ignore:DVCNews Debates To date, Disney Vacation Club resorts have been most closely associated with Disney's Deluxe class accommodations.  Villas include features common to the most expensive Disney accommodations including the larger square footage, king and queen-sized beds, balconies and kitchens / kitchenettes.

Still, over the years some have voiced a desire for lower-cost (points) DVC accommodations on par with Disney's Moderate and even Value resorts.

DVCNews Debates: Pre-DVC habits

mt_ignore:DVCNews Debates It goes without saying that most Disney Vacation Club members are already frequent guests to the Disney theme parks.  However, the choice of accommodations among those who are not (yet) members will certainly vary.  Choices range from Deluxe resorts which are similar to DVC accommodations to inexpensive Value resorts to off-site hotels.

DVCNews Debates: One-time use points

mt_ignore:DVCNews Debates Several days ago Disney Vacation Club announced that it would begin offering members the ability to purchase up to 24 additional points per year for one-time usage at a rate of $15 per point.  These points would allow members to extend a vacation in the event that they do not have enough points in their deeded ownership holdings.  However there are some restrictions associated with these one-time use points, most notably members must wait until 7 months prior to arrival to purchase and use the points.

DVCNews Debates: Merchandise changes

mt_ignore:DVCNews Debates Despite the overabundance of shops throughout its theme parks and resorts, Disney has earned a reputation for producing some pretty mediocre Disney Vacation Club member merchandise.  Styles and colors are often bland.  Items which include both a resort name and "Disney Vacation Club" are relatively unheard of.  And the product lines offered are not much more diverse than clothing and a few other trinkets.

DVCNews Debates: Management company

mt_ignore:DVCNews Debates The entity known as Disney Vacation Club exists to manage the timeshare program (sales are handed by Disney Vacation Development.)  Responsibilities of the manager include acceptance and tracking of reservations, setting annual resort budgets, billing annual dues and so on.

However it is conceivable that Disney could someday decide to rid itself of the day-to-day managerial duties.  Management of the program could be farmed-out (sold) to another timeshare manager like Marriott, Wyndham or Bluegreen.  Current members would retain their Home resort ownership rights, but exact terms and conditions of the program's operation (booking windows, banking deadlines, cancellation policies, etc) would be subject to change.  Competion to book non-Home Disney resorts would undoubtedly increase, but members would also gain direct access to new destinations which are part of the other timeshare program.
