This weekend Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel played host to California’s first official member event. Originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday the event was extended an additional night on Friday to accommodate the unexpected demand from members.
The event was held in the Pacific Ballroom and offered
catered appetizers, wine and champagne, as well as several dessert
choices. The ballroom was separated into
two sections. Section one contained
several kiosks providing information on vacation opportunities available to
members including Adventures by Disney, Disney Cruise Line and Interval
International. At each kiosk a pin was
given out to each member. A card was
also provided to ensure that you collected all 6 pins, (and consequently visited
all kiosks).
The second room contained several interactive games including
Video Kayaking, and Video Skiing. The
room featured tuxedo-clad hosts and hostesses offering wine and
champagne.
At 7:30 the “Disney Getaways” presentation began. The presentation included two DVC
representatives as well as DVC spokesperson Casey who appears on the Disney Vacation
Club promotional DVD. All three took turns speaking
about various options available to members.
There were also several door prize giveaways including Disney Gift
Cards, a digital camera, and a week’s vacation thru Interval
International. Event only incentives
were discussed as well. It is
interesting to note that Saratoga Springs was not on sale at this event, nor
was it even mentioned. All sales focus
was on Animal Kingdom.
Here is a brief rundown on the incentives that were offered exclusively at Getaway Days:
Purchase 160 points; $8 off per point; two Disneyland OR Walt Disney World Annual Passes; 3 nights in a Concierage Collection resort in Lake Tahoe, San Francisco or San Diego OR 7 nights at select Interval International exchange destination
Purchase 250 points; $8 off per point; two Disneyland or Walt Disney World Annual Passes; 7 night land & sea package on Disney Cruise Line
Purchase 350 points; $8 off per point; two Disneyland or Walt Disney World Annual Passes; complimentary Adventures by Disney journey from among select destinations; one night's stay in the Mickey Mouse Penthouse
Purchase 500 points; $8 off per point; two Disneyland or Walt Disney World Annual Passes; complimentary Adventures by Disney journey - any itinerary; one night's stay in the Mickey Mouse Penthouse
After the event there was a party that included more drinks,
and photo opportunities with the characters.
Members interested in purchasing additional ownerships were invited
upstairs where additional dinner items were offered, as well as a full
bar. It is important to note that there
were several Orlando Cast Members present as well as some top DVC
executives. It was apparent from my
perspective that this was a well attended, successful event for Disney Vacation
Club.
