July 2015 sales update: Polynesian sales decline

Financial News & Pricing

After posting its best-ever sales month for Disney's Polynesian Villas & Bungalows in June 2015, Disney Vacation Club took a step backward in the follow-up frame.

In July 2015, Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows sold 98,795 Disney Vacation Club points, a decrease of 7.7% compared to the previous month. Excluding sales for Aulani, Disney Vacation Club Villas, overall direct sales in July were down 16.7% compared to June 2015.

Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows — With 98,795 points sold in July 2015, Disney Vacation Development has now sold 460,043 of the Polynesian’s 4 million total points.

In June 2015, most new members purchased Polynesian deeds with points in the December Use Year. In July, DVD began to assign the February Use Year to more new members who did not request a specific Use Year. Nevertheless, the December Use Year still accounts for about 45% of all points sold so far at the resort.

DVC Direct Sales - July 2015

Four Guaranteed Week deeds were sold for the Polynesian in July, bringing to 76 the number of Guaranteed Week deeds sold thus far. The last six weeks of the year are the most popular with Guaranteed Week buyers, with 42 of the 76 sold for that period. Lake View studios have accounted for 41 deeds and Standard View studios have accounted for 24 deeds. Eleven Guaranteed Week deeds have been sold for the over-the-water bungalows.

Disney Vacation Development has declared 10 bungalows and 142 studios for the DVC inventory, which accounts for 40.71% of the Polynesian’s total points. There are still 218 studios and 10 more bungalows that have not yet been declared and are controlled by DVD.

Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa -- Just four months ago, in March 2015, 129,116 points were sold for the Grand Floridian when it was the focus of DVD’s marketing efforts. Now, with the resort “sold out”, only 5,101 points were sold in July for the resort.

Despite being sold out, DVD sold one Guaranteed Week deed in July 2015 for the Grand Floridian. A total of 277 Guaranteed Week deeds have been sold for the Grand Floridian, which account for only 4.0% of the total points sold for the resort. Similar to the Polynesian, the last six weeks of the year are the most popular: 110 of the 277 deeds are for the weeks from Thanksgiving to the end of the year.

Aulani, Disney Vacation Club Villas — Sales data for Aulani is not included in this month’s sales update. The Hawaii Bureau of Conveyances, the source for Aulani’s sales data, has updated its website for only part of July. Aulani sales data for July should be available shortly and will be included in next month’s sales update.

The sales data includes all nine DVC resorts at Walt Disney World, as well as Disney's Vero Beach Resort, Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort, and Aulani, Disney Vacation Club Villas. Point sales data is not available for the Villas at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel. The data is compiled from deeds filed by Disney Vacation Development and recorded with the Orange County (FL) Comptroller, the Indian River County (FL) Clerk of Court, the Beaufort County (SC) Register of Deeds, and the Hawaii Bureau of Conveyances.
