Direct sales increase in April 2013

Financial News & Pricing

Led by strong sales for Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas in April 2013, Disney Vacation Development had its best month for direct sales since August 2012.

181,563 points were sold in April '13 for the nine Disney Vacation Club resorts for which sales data is available.  Not only did Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas lead all resorts with 133,942 points sold, its sales for April '13 was more than double the number of points that was sold for it in March '13.

Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas has sold 85.2% of its 7.4 million points.  Since Disney Vacation Development is required to retain at least 2% itself, it has slightly less than 950,000 Animal Kingdom points that it can sell to the public.

DVC Direct Sales April 2013

Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary resort sold 18,629 points in April '13.  With over 5.6 million points sold to the public, Disney Vacation Development has less than 20,000 points left to sell for this resort.

Animal Kingdom Villas wasn't the only DVC resort with strong sales in April '13.  Disney's Vero Beach Resort was third in sales for April '13 with 9,093 points.  Since July 2010, Vero Beach has averaged only 2,062 points a month in sales and never sold more than 5,140 points in a single month.  According to information from the Indian River County (FL) Clerk of Court, the Disney's Vero Beach Resort deeds recorded in April '13 were priced at $75 a point, the lowest direct price for any DVC resort.  It appears that Disney Vacation Development was offering Vero Beach as a low-priced alternative to other DVC resorts, which are priced well over $100 a point.

During the first three months of 2013 Disney's BoardWalk Villas experienced a resurgence in sales as it averaged over 15,000 points a month.  However, in April '13, sales for BoardWalk Villas declined to only 4,771 points, perhaps indicating that Disney Vacation Club's inventory of points is nearly depleted for this resort.

The sales data includes all seven DVC resorts at Walt Disney World, as well as Disney's Vero Beach Resort andDisney's Hilton Head Island Resort. Point sales data is not available for the Villas at Disney's Grand California Hotel or for Aulani, Disney Vacation Club Villas. The data is compiled from deeds filed by Disney Vacation Development and recorded with the Orange County (FL) Comptroller, the Indian River County (FL) Clerk of Court, and the Beaufort County (SC) Register of Deeds.
