Upcoming monorail operating restrictions

WDW Transportation News

For the next two weeks, the Walt Disney World resort monorail will be out of service during daytime hours.

Beginning October 6 and lasting for approximately two weeks, the resorts monorail will not run between the hours of 11am - 6pm daily.

During the closure, additional bus transportation will be provided at the three resorts on the monorail line including the Disney Vacation Club property Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort.  Guests at those resorts can use buses to reach both the Magic Kingdom theme park and the Transportation and Ticket Center.

The express monorail between the Transportation and Ticket Center and Magic Kingdom will continue to operate normally, as will the Epcot monorail.

Reports vary as to the reason behind the operating restrictions.  Some claims suggest that it's linked to construction completion on the Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort; monorail closures occurred in the early stages of construction as equipment and materials were moved to the worksite.  Other reports suggest the downtime needed to perform maintenance on the monorail track itself.

Barring any unanticipated delays, the system is expected to be in full operation for the opening of the Grand Floridian villas on October 23.
