Disney continues to expand its use of digital technology with plans to unveil a "digital key" feature, allowing guests to unlock their hotel room door via smartphone.
The MyDisneyExperience app will soon be updated to include the digital key technology. Guests will be able to hold their smartphone to the MagicBand pad, and tap the "Unlock Door" button to access their hotel room or villa. This feature can also be used at resort entrance gates and other access points throughout Walt Disney World resorts including pools, fitness centers, club lounges and elevators.

Disney's Wilderness Lodge will be the first resort to receive these enhancements. No timeline has been given for the rollout.
In order to utilize the feature, guests must have a supported version of the MyDisneyExperience mobile app on their smartphone. Bluetooth must be supported and enabled on the device.
