Tired of carrying around your Disney Vacation Club member ID card? A solution may be on the way.
Disney MagicBands are an amazingly versatile technology. The rubber wristbands--with embedded RFID locators--can grant admission to Walt Disney World theme parks, open hotel room doors, charge purchases to a credit card, track FastPass+ ride times and PhotoPass photographs.
One thing they cannot do is confirm that a guest is eligible for Disney Vacation Club discount perks. But that may soon change.
According to a source, Disney is working on some form of special MagicBand design for DVC members. In addition to serving as a fun band variation for owners, the DVC exclusive would presumably replace the plastic member card as a means of verifying membership when purchasing discounted goods and services.
Prior to the introduction of MagicBands, Disney's plastic Key to the World cards typically included a "DVC Member" notation. Most shopping, dining and other establishments would accept the KTTW card as proof of eligibility for DVC discounts.
File this one away as a rumor for the time being but given Disney's heavy investment in the entire MyMagic+ program, it's reasonable to conclude that they will produce many MagicBand variants and accessories in the years to come.
