DVCNews Debates: My Disney Experience

mt_ignore:DVCNews Debates

Disney's so-called "NextGen" initiatives including My Disney Experience, MagicBands and FastPass+ could have a profound impact on the theme park experience.  A bit of advance planning is recommended, and those who choose to plan the furthest in advance are likely to have the widest array of options available.  But in exchange for that advance planning, guests can eliminate the wasted trips to FastPASS kiosks to claim paper tickets and choose their exact ride times rather than just taking whatever is offered.

DVCNews Debates: Holiday overlay

mt_ignore:DVCNews Debates

At the Disneyland theme park, several attractions are modified each year to add a special holiday overlay.  Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain and It's a Small World are three key attractions which close for several days or weeks to add--and later remove--special theming around the Halloween and Christmas holidays.

Walt Disney World has so far avoided any similar themed overlays.  The reasoning most often given is that it caters more to the infrequent tourist crowd, which places a premium on availability and traditional appearance of those attractions.  Too many guests would (presumably) be disappointed at the attraction closures and uniqueness of the holiday theming.

DVCNews Debates: Too small!

The number of villas at Disney Vacation Club resorts varies greatly...from a scant 48 rooms at the Villas at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel up to 900+ at Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa.  Booking trends suggest that several resorts could have been constructed with a larger number of villas and would still be very popular with owners.

DVCNews Debates: Best non-DVC point use

mt_ignore:DVCNews Debates

Using points outside of the core Disney Vacation Club resorts is often viewed as a poor value.  Whether points are used for Disney cruises, Disneyland hotel stays or even trades through RCI, members never seem to get quite as much bang for their buck as stays in the DVC resorts.

Still with hundreds-of-thousands of owners, there are many who gladly use their points for a non-DVC destination for any variety of reasons.

DVCNews Debates: Sales pitch at meeting

mt_ignore:DVCNews Debates

Disney Vacation Club seems to be downplaying any form of add-on sales pitch at member events like Welcome Home Wednesdays and the Royal Member Gathering.  Recently there has been little-to-no mention of resorts available for purchase, prices, incentives, etc.

When present, the sales pitch was never particularly obtrusive.  Many members have benefitted from special promotional offers and did not seem to mind the light sales pitch.  Others undoubtedly found any mention of add-on purchases to be off-putting.
