In the fall 2016 issue of DisneyFiles Magazine, Disney Vacation Club stated that the renaming of its Wilderness Lodge resort would begin on October 25. Sure enough, the DVC website has now been updated to reflect the new resort name: Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge.
The revised name is shown in the resort description, online booking page, Resort Availability Tool and other sections of the website. The number of villas and their makeup remains unchanged.
According to our sources on-site at Walt Disney World, use of the new name has not yet extended to the resort itself. The Boulder Ridge name is not being utilized on resort signage, maps or other materials.
The name change was necessitated by DVC's expanded presence at the Wilderness Lodge. A separate timeshare project is under development at the property, dubbed Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney's Wilderness Lodge. Villa inventory for Boulder Ridge and Copper Creek will be tracked separately, with 11 month booking rights likely granted only for the timeshare at which the member's points are deeded.
This setup--with two legally-separate developments at a single resort--is unique to Disney Vacation Club, but it is not uncommon in the timeshare world. Many larger properties are constructed in separate phases with legal and administrative separation between the entities.
Construction at Disney's Wilderness Lodge is expected to continue into 2018. Plans call for a reimagined quiet pool, new restaurant and other amenities in addition to the cabins and repurposed hotel rooms.
