So what do we think this circular structure might be?
Disney's Riviera Resort is scheduled to open in 2019 as the fifteenth Disney Vacation Club property.
Unlike the last two DVC properties, Riviera consists entirely of new construction. Nearly all accommodations at Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney's Wilderness Lodge and Disney's Polynesian Villas & Bungalows were hotel rooms converted to villas. These conversion projects handcuff designers, forcing them to work around the established room dimensions, utility lines and so forth.
With Riviera, designers had the luxury of beginning with a blank slate, perhaps creating room types and amenities unlike anything we have ever seen before.
Persistent rumors suggest that Riviera may introduce an economy Studio option with a size and setup akin to Disney's Moderate hotel rooms. Studio villas have rapidly increased in popularity over the years as DVC markets the program to more and more budget-minded consumers.
Could this rounded section of the resort be home to several dozen wedge-shaped Studio rooms?
Or perhaps these are elaborate full-floor grand villas with a 270 degree balcony view that encompasses both Epcot to the north and Disney's Hollywood Studios to the west.
