A petition has been created on website Change.org to encourage Disney executives to reconsider planned removal of the lobby waterfall at Disney's Polynesian Resort.
The Polynesian is currently in the midst of extensive renovations linked to the addition of Disney Vacation Club timeshare villas at the property. One of those modifications is the removal of the large waterfall structure which dominates the center of the resort's lobby.
Many have voiced their displeasure over the elimination of such an iconic resort feature, with some turning to an online petition at Change.org to encourage Disney to alter its designs.
A campaign entitled "Stop the removal of the Polynesian Resort waterfalll" hopes to collect 2,500 virtual signatures for presentation to Walt Disney World Resort President George Kalogridis. While voicing their objectives, campaign organizers state: "Many are simply devastated upon realizing that something that is so important to the resort and their memories will be removed."
To date, the campaign has amassed over 1,600 signatures.
Construction walls were recently placed around the waterfall in advance of expected demolition.
Resort renovations will continue into 2015. Included are construction of 20 Disney Vacation Club waterfront bungalows, conversion of existing hotel rooms to DVC villas, expansion of Captain Cook's quick service eatery and addition of the Disneyland-inspired Trader Sam's Grog Grotto.
