The year-long renovation of a popular Disney Vacation Club destination is set to begin before the end of September.
Multiple reports from guests currently on-site at Walt Disney World indicate that refurbishment on Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort will begin in earnest on Monday, September 30, 2024. The order in which rooms will be renovated is typically not shared by Disney but one guest was told that the entire southern side of Bay Lake Tower will close next week.
Workers have already been seen moving about the property, and construction materials are staged in nearby parking areas.
The entire project is expected to take about a year, concluding in September 2025. The resort will remain open during construction with barriers used to shield guests from areas being renovated. Disney previously indicated that the skybridge connecting Bay Lake Tower to the A-frame Contemporary Resort will be subject to periodic closures. Guests with upcoming reservations are advised to look for directional signs or speak to front desk Cast Members to stay up to date on changes.
No concept art or renderings have been shared regarding the new room design. This is the first full renovation of Bay Lake Tower since its opening in 2009. Significant changes may occur throughout the villa interiors, including updates to bathroom fixtures, kitchen cabinets, furniture and more.
The first updated rooms should open sometime in late 2024 or early 2025.
