The Orlando Sentinel's Jason Garcia is reporting that Disney has altered its plans for naming the forthcoming Disney Vacation Club component at its Contemporary Resort. Originally dubbed the Kingdom Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort, it now appears the facility will go by the name Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort.
In February, the Sentinel uncovered filings with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation which appeared to confirm both the intended use as Vacation Club villas and the "Kingdom Tower" name. However the name was subject to a surprising amount of criticism within the Internet blogosphere. New filings suggest that the outcry was sufficient to gain Disney's attention. According to Garcia:
"Bay Lake Tower" has replaced "Kingdom Tower" as the name of the project, at least in filings with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. What's more, earlier this month Disney filed paperwork to create a "Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort Condominium Association," presumably to manage the resort once it is sold off to individual owners. Disney had created a "Kingdom Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort Condominium Association" in January.
Disney has been actively developing land adjacent to the Contemporary Tower since 2006. Despite persistent rumors suggesting DVC involvement in the project, Disney has not publicly commented on its intended use.
