The final Disney Vacation Club resort is now clear of Hurricane Dorian and poised to resume operations.

Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort

Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort will reopen to guests on Saturday, September 7, 2019. IslandPacket.com quotes Beaufort County Sheriff P.J. Tanner as saying that the area was “lucky”, avoiding significant damage from the storm.

Uncertainty regarding the path of Hurricane Dorian prompted the resort‘s evacuation on Monday, September 2nd. After stalling in the Bahamas over Labor Day weekend, the storm gradually made its way northward, impacting the South Carolina community late Wednesday and into Thursday.

According to IslandPacket.com, winds in the Hilton Head area topped out at 67 mph. Around 22,000 residents lost power but minimal structural damage was reported.

Owners of Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort are currently paying about eleven cents per point, per year in their annual dues to cover repairs associated with Hurricane Matthew in 2018 and Hurricane Irma in 2017. That special assessment is scheduled to be fully repaid by 2022.
