Owners of Disney's Old Key West Resort aren't the only ones receive offers from Disney Vacation Club to buy back their points.
Since our story regarding Old Key West was published last week, we've heard reports from owners of at least two other resorts who received offers to repurchase their points. Disney Vacation Club is also offering to buy back contracts at Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa and Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas.
Interested members must contact DVC to receive a buy-back price on their specific contract. Offers are generally in the range of $80-100 per point, depending on the resort, size of the contract and status of points. These rates are lower than what can be obtained on the resale market. Disney Vacation Club is attempting to appeal to sellers who seek a quick return, without the need to engage a resale broker, attract buyers and pay broker commission. The website dvc.market has details on recent resale transfer prices for all resorts.
DVC can then sell the re-acquired points to new owners. Direct sale prices are currently $186 per point for Animal Kingdom, $170 for Old Key West and $180 for Saratoga Springs. In the case of Old Key West, contracts repurchased with a 2042 ending date can be merged with the 15 added years and sold by DVC with the 2057 end date.
Although not highly publicized, Disney Vacation Club does have a history of offering to buy-back points at select resorts. Historically the buy-back prices were 1/3 to 1/4 of the going rate via the resale marketplace, garnering little interest from prospective sellers. To our knowledge, this is the first time DVC has sent a mass soliciation to owners offering to buy-back points.
