Hilton Head to Reopen Thursday

Hilton Head Island avoided the worst of Hurricane Florence but the reopening of Disney Vacation Club's resort has been pushed back a couple days.

Hilton Head Island Resort

Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort is currently scheduled to reopen on Thursday, September 20, two days later than last week's initial projection

After threatening the southern part of South Carolina, Florence took a late turn toward the state to the north. Swansboro, North Carolina was among the hardest hit communities, recording more than 30 inches of rainfall by Sunday evening. CBS News is reporting 18 deaths related to the storm and more than 740,000 homes and businesses without power.

By 11:00pm Sunday the storm had been downgraded to a Tropical Depression.

Beaufort County, SC, home to the Disney resort, was expected to receive only about 1 inch of rain through the weekend along with winds topping-out at 30 miles per hour. Although the area was not subject to mandatory evacuation, many chose to leave on their own. On Sunday evening, IslandPacket.com reported long traffic delays along I-95 as evacuees attempted to return home.

Reasons for the delayed reopening of Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort are not known. Significant property damage is not expected, though some cleanup may be necessary. Other factors like availability of evacuated Cast Members and resort resupply may be contributing to the delay.
