August 2015 sales update: Polynesian sales decline 20%

Financial News & Pricing

In August 2015, Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows sold 78,975 Disney Vacation Club points, a decrease of 20.1% compared to the previous month. Excluding sales for Aulani, Disney Vacation Club Villas, overall direct sales in August were down 19.3% compared to July 2015.

Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows — The 78,975 points sold in August 2015 is slightly more than the 75,124 points the Polynesian has averaged each month since sales began. Disney Vacation Development has now sold 539,018 of the Polynesian’s 4 million total points.

If sales for the Polynesian continue at the current rate, it will take almost four years before the resort is sold out.

DVC Direct Sales

In early August 2015, most new DVC members were offered deeds with the February Use Year. However, by the end of the month, Disney Vacation Development was offering the March Use Year to most new members. Such shifting from one Use Year to another is quite common since DVD usually offers new members about four to six months of retroactive benefits.

For the first time in the Polynesian’s brief history, Disney Vacation Development did not sell any Guaranteed Week deeds in the month. So far, 76 Guaranteed Week deeds have been sold for the Polynesian: 41 deeds for Lake View studios; 24 deeds for Standard View studios; and 11 deeds for the over-the-water bungalows.

Disney Vacation Development has declared 10 bungalows and 142 studios for the DVC inventory, which accounts for 40.71% of the Polynesian’s total points. There are still 218 studios and 10 more bungalows that have not yet been declared and are controlled by DVD.

Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa -- Only 3.048 points were sold in August 2015 for the Grand Floridian. Not only was the Grand Floridian far behind the Polynesian in sales for the month, it also trailed Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa’s 6,403 points and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas’ 6,053 points.

Aulani, Disney Vacation Club Villas — Sales data for Aulani is not included in this month’s sales update. The Hawaii Bureau of Conveyances, the source for Aulani’s sales data, has been slow in updating its website, making it very difficult to update Aulani’s sales data on a timely basis.

In July 2015, 66,564 points were sold for Aulani, an increase of 5.2% over June 2015. Over the last 12 months, Aulani has sold an average of 67,527 points per month.

The sales data includes all nine DVC resorts at Walt Disney World, as well as Disney's Vero Beach Resort, Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort, and Aulani, Disney Vacation Club Villas. Point sales data is not available for the Villas at Disney's Grand California Hotel. The data is compiled from deeds filed by Disney Vacation Development and recorded with the Orange County (FL) Comptroller, the Indian River County (FL) Clerk of Court, the Beaufort County (SC) Register of Deeds, and the Hawaii Bureau of Conveyances.
