Monthly Sales Update: Year end decline

Financial News & Pricing

Just as at the end of 2012, December 2013 was a very slow month for direct sales of Disney Vacation Club points. Only 118,639 points were sold for the month, the second lowest monthly point total since sales began being tracked on a monthly basis in July 2010. The lowest monthly point total was in December 2012, when Disney Vacation Development sold only 115.281 points.

In December, the Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian & Spa led all resorts in sales with 68,540 points, a drop of 9.1% compared to the previous month. Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas was second with 41,570 points sold, an increase of 6.3% compared to the previous month. The other eight DVC resorts for which sales are tracked only accounted for another 8,529 points.

DVC Direct Sales December 2013

Despite December's low sales total, Disney Vacation Development still averaged almost 182,000 points in monthly sales in 2013. Sales ranged from a high of 365,524 points in July to a low of 118,639 points this past month. Sales in 2013 totaled 2,181,846 points, a drop of 82,871 points compared to calendar year 2012.

December holiday work schedules may have prompted delays in posting sales to the Orange County Comptroller website.  Through the first 10 days of January 2014, OCC has posted nearly as many deeds as in all of December 2013.

Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa -- With 68,540 points sold in December 2013, the Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian has sold 29.4% of its 2.5 million points. If sales were to continue at the rate of about 68,000 points a month, it will take about 25 months before the Grand Floridian is completely sold out.

In addition to offering traditional Disney Vacation Club points, the Grand Floridian also offers Fixed Weeks. About 8.6% of the points and 186 of the deeds sold through December 2013 have been for Fixed Weeks. Week #49, which starts on December 7, 2014, and is during the less expensive Adventure Season, is the most popular week with 20 Fixed Week deeds sold. Half of the Fixed Weeks sold have been for the last six weeks of the year.

Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas -- Including the 41,570 points sold in December, Disney Vacation Development sold 1,018,120 points for Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas in 2013. It has sold 93.8% of Animal Kingdom Villas' 7.4 million points and has about 309,000 it can still sell to the general public.

The sales data includes all eight DVC resorts at Walt Disney World, as well as Disney's Vero Beach Resort and Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort. Point sales data is not available for the Villas at Disney's Grand California Hotel or for Aulani, Disney Vacation Club Villas. The data is compiled from deeds filed by Disney Vacation Development and recorded with the Orange County (FL) Comptroller, the Indian River County (FL) Clerk of Court, and the Beaufort County (SC) Register of Deeds.
