Limits placed on gift card usage

DVC Policies & Procedures

As the new year approaches, Disney Vacation Club members who use Disney Gift Cards to pay their annual dues need to be aware of a new Member Services policy.

Disney Vacation Club allows owners to use Disney Gift Cards to pay their annual dues obligation for the year.  Certain retail outlets sell the gift cards for prices less than their face value, allowing owners to take advantage of some savings.

However, the discounted cards are often sold in incriments of $25 or $50, requiring some DVC owners to purchase dozens of cards in order to pay the full maintenance fee balance.  Disney Vacation Club lacks an online option for paying annual dues with gift cards; owners could spend significant time on the telephone with a DVC agent, reading off gift card ID numbers in order to have payment applied to their account.

Effective immediately, Disney Vacation Club has placed a limit of five (5) gift cards used toward annual dues payments.

Fortunately Disney also has a new option which allows all of its guests to combine values from multiple gift cards to a single card.  The website DisneyGiftCard.com.

After creating an account at the official Disney Gift Card website, guests can use the "Transfer Balance" function under "Manage Cards" in order to merge balances to a single gift card.  The website allows registered members to specify the card(s) to remove dollars "from" and cards which they would like to move dollars "to."

Each Disney Gift Card can support a balance of up to $1000.  With the 5-card limit enforced by Disney Vacation Club, owners can pre-load five cards with up to $5000 for the purposes of paying their annual maintenance fees.

2016 annual dues balances will be posted around the start of the year.  Payment is due by January 15, 2016 with a 30 day grace period provided before any late fees or penalties are applied.
