Yes, the free single-day promotional park pass can be used to upgrade to a discounted DVC Annual Pass.
Individuals who have completed their volunteer assignment will receive a voucher for their complimentary single-day ticket. That voucher must be presented at a Disney park Guest Relations booth in order to receive the actual park ticket.
According to the terms of the somewhat cumbersone upgrade process, the free single-day ticket must actually be presented at a theme park turnstile before it can be upgrade. Once the pass has been used to gain entry to the park, the ticket holder can return to Guest Relations to comlete the upgrade process.
The complimentary "Give A Day" passes are valued at $79 per adult and $68 per child (age 3-9.) Participants will receive the free pass value as a credit toward the purchase of any multi-day ticket or Annual Pass, including the Disney Vacation Club discounted Annual Passes.
For instance, the current price of an adult DVC Annual Pass for Walt Disney World is $414. With the $79 "Give A Day" ticket credit, the final price of an upgrade to the DVC-discounted Annual Pass is $335.
