Wireless Internet coming to Disney resorts?

Member Benefits and Perks

It appears that Disney is quietly working to roll-out wireless Internet service to many of its resort hotels including Disney Vacation Club properties.

DVCNews.com contributor Wil Lovato is reporting that technicians recently installed a wireless access point in his guest room at the Bay Lake Tower.

This is not the first we've heard of wi-fi service being added to select resorts.  Other reports have pointed to similar hardware being installed at Disney's Old Key West Resort

Technicians referred Lovato to a wireless network called "guest-wireless" which he confirmed is currently operational.

According to one source, service is available now throughout most of Bay Lake Tower with other resorts at various stages of implementation. Disney is reportedly considering multiple access speeds with the slowest service complimentary and higher speeds offered for a fee.

The basic complimentary service may be necessitated by Disney's "NextGen" technology initiatives which aim to enhance the theme park experience via web-enabled technologies and smartphone apps.  Meanwhile, guests hoping to stream video programming or use other cloud-enabled services during their resort stay will appreciate added bandwidth provided by a paid tier.

No word on whether the paid tiers would be encompassed within the current Disney Vacation Club "free Internet" perk, or when the project will be officially announced.

Complimentary Internet service is currently available at all DVC resorts outside of Walt Disney World including Disney's Vero Beach Resort, Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort, Villas at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa and Aulani, Disney Vacation Club Villas
