WDWMagic.com is reporting that 279 Cast Members working for DVC will lose their jobs effective December 4, 2020. 244 of the individuals work out of the Team Disney building while 35 were employed at the timeshare's Celebration, Florida offices.

These workers are part of 6700 non-union Cast Members who will be let-go from Walt Disney World. Many work in entertainment positions, like The Grand Floridian Symphony Orchestra members who recently announced their departure. According to other reports, the cuts include all performers from the Spirit of Aloha show at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort

In total, Disney plans to slash 28,000 employees from its domestic theme park operations. About 2/3 of those eliminated will be part time workers.

Disney has struggled to regain its footing in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Numerous Walt Disney World hotels and restaurants remain shuttered, while theme parks operate at a fraction of their normal capacity. Disneyland Resort has not yet received reopening guidance from the State of California, and remains closed more than six months after the pandemic hit.
