Financial News & Pricing

With the United States theme parks and resorts still shuttered, direct sales of Disney Vacation Club points in May 2020 were at an all time low.

Only 18,380 points were sold for the 11 DVC resorts at Walt Disney World. The deeds recorded in May represent transactions that were started several weeks or months ago and finally went through closing during May.

To say that direct sales are depressed is an understatement. The combined total number of points sold for April (39,880 points) and May (18,380 points) is still 37.6% less than the 93,295 points sold in December 2015, which was previous fewest number of points sold in a single month in the last 10 years.

DVC Direct Sales - May 2020

From April 2019 to March 2020 sales averaged 187,209 DVC points a month; in April and May 2020 sales averaged only 29,130 points a month.

Most of the DVC resorts will be reopening in June and the four Walt Disney World theme parks are scheduled to welcome guests back in July. Disney has not announced when direct sales will resume but it should occur within the next few weeks. Even then, it will probably be several months before direct sales begin to approach their pre-Covid sales levels

Disney’s Riviera Resort — In May 2020, 15,870 points were sold for Disney’s Riviera Resort. This is far below the 114,399 points that Riviera averaged in monthly sales from April 2019 to March 2020.

Riviera has sold 1,418,482 points, about 21.1% of the resort’s 6.7 million total points. Before the Covid-19 pandemic, Riviera was on pace to sell out in about 48 months. However, given the uncertainties surrounding sales, it is not possible to estimate when the resort may sell out.

No Fixed Week deeds were sold for Disney's Riviera Resort in April. To date, 32 Fixed Week deeds have been sold for the resort.

Effective March 16, 2020, Disney declared 24 additional vacation homes for Riviera’s DVC inventory. The resort now has 123 of its 341 vacation homes declared for DVC members to book using their points. The 123 vacation homes account for 2,448,318, or 36.3%, of Riviera’s total points. Disney still has about 4.3 million undeclared Riviera points at its disposal. In addition, there are about one million Riviera points that are declared for members to use but have not yet sold to the public

The sales data includes all 11 DVC resorts at Walt Disney World, as well as Disney's Vero Beach Resort, Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort, and Aulani, Disney Vacation Club Villas. Point sales data is not available for the Villas at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel. The data is compiled from deeds filed by Disney Vacation Development and recorded with the Orange County (FL) Comptroller, the Indian River County (FL) Clerk of Court, and the Beaufort County (SC) Register of Deeds.
