Disney confirmed plans to implement a new version of its MagicBands across Walt Disney World.
At this weekend's "Destination D" event, Disney took the wraps off version 2 of its MagicBand technology. Gone are the 1-piece bands with integrated RFID sensor. The new bands feature a removable RFID module which can be placed in bag tags and other fobs by guests who do not wish to wear on their wrists.

The new bands are slightly wider than orignal MagicBands, while permitting the flexibility that many guests have so anxiously awaited. RFID touch points will remain unchanged, meaning that both original and version 2 MagicBands will remain fully functional. Both versions of the bands can be used to enter Disney resort guest rooms, make purchases at enabled touchpoints, redeem FastPasses and more.
No specific timeline was provided but Disney intends to begin rolling-out the new MagicBands very soon.

Also at the Destination D event, Disney provided an opening date and new concept artwork for Pandora--The World of Avatar, as well as a modest update on the Star Wars lands under construction on both coasts including word of Episode VIII content for to Star Tours.
