The Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) / AECOM have released attendance reports for the 2012 calendar year. Each of the Walt Disney World parks saw steady gains while Disney California Adventure attendance skyrocketed following the mid-year Cars Land opening.
According to the TEA figures, each of the four Walt Disney World parks saw 2012 attendance gains of 2.2 to 2.3%. The Magic Kingdom remains the most visited park in the world with attendance of 17,536,000, up 2.3% over 2011.
Meanwhile Disney California Adventure traffic increased 22.6% for the year thanks to the June '12 opening of its Cars Land expansion. Across the plaza, Disneyland attendance dropped 1.1%, with guests presumably spending a bit more of their free time in DCA over Disneyland.
Disney's two Tokyo theme parks saw increases of 8.5% each. Worldwide attendance at the Disney theme parks was up 4.7% to an all-time high of 126,479,000 guests.
The annual TEA / AECOM report is viewed as the most accurate resource available for theme park attendance numbers. Figures are gathered from industry sources, historical data, financial reports and other outlets. The Walt Disney Company does not disclose detailed attendance information for any of its theme parks.
