Over the years, Disney has consistently tried to make it harder for Disney Vacation Club members to rent unused points. In a way, it's hard to blame them: rentals undercut Disney's own prices--particularly at Deluxe resorts--and make it especially difficult for Disney to sell villas freed-up by member trades.
On the other hand, Disney can ultimately benefit from rentals by exposing a new clientele to the DVC experience--many renters may someday become owners themselves.
