Disney's Riviera Resort

The number of vacation homes at Disney’s Riviera Resort that Disney Vacation Club members can book using points increased near the start of the pandemic.

Twenty-four vacation homes, all located on sixth floor, were added to Riviera’s DVC inventory, The additional inventory included two dedicated studios, two dedicated one-bedroom villas, ten lockoff two-bedroom villas, and ten dedicated two-bedroom villas.

Disney has now declared 123 of the 341 vacation homes at Riviera for the DVC inventory. A breakdown of the vacation homes that have been declared to date is as follows:

  • 9 of 24 Tower Studios
  • 13 of 38 Dedicated Studios
  • 11 of 29 Dedicated One-Bedroom Villas
  • 49 of 148 Lockoff Two-Bedroom Villas
  • 36 of 90 Dedicated Two-Bedroom Villas
  • 5 of 12 Grand Villas

In terms of points, the new declaration accounts for 495,736 DVC points The DVC inventory now contains 2,448,318 Riviera points, or about 36.3% of the Riviera’s 6.7 million total points. This means that on any given Use Day DVC members can book about 36.3% of the resort using DVC points. The undeclared inventory remains under the control of Disney Vacation Development, which can use it for cash reservations or any reason it chooses.

The new Riviera declaration was recorded by the Orange County Comptroller on June 1, 2020. However, Disney indicated the effective date of the declaration was March 16, 2020, meaning that the additional inventory has been available to members since that date. Ironically, that was the same day that the four parks at Walt Disney World were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As of the end of May 2020, Disney had sold about 1.4 million points for Riviera. With this latest declaration, there are about 1 million declared-but-unsold Riviera points, meaning there are many more accommodations available at Riviera than could be booked by Riviera owners. This excess DVC inventory should make it a little easier for DVC members who do not own at the Riviera to use their points at DVC’s newest resort.
