Grand Floridian announcement delayed by Lewis' departure?

Other / Prospective Resort

Over the last 6 months, many signs have hinted at a Disney Vacation Club addition to Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.  But could Jim Lewis' abrupt departure have impacted this highly-anticipated project?

The 2011 D23 Expo begins this Friday, August 19 in Anaheim, California.  One of the more eagerly-anticipated sessions is the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts session scheduled for Friday afternoon in the main arena.  Tom Staggs, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts is expected to lead attendees on a virtual tour around the world, showcasing new attractions and other enhancements planned for Disney Parks in the coming months and years.

The presentation was originally scheduled to run for 90 minutes, from 3:30 - 5:00pm PST.  However, the schedule has since been revised with the session shortened to 60 minutes, 3:30 - 4:30pm PST.  According to our friends at StitchKingdom.com, the official calendar was updated on Tuesday, August 16--four days after Disney Vacation Club head Jim Lewis and two other executives were discharged.

Coincidence?  Or was Tom Staggs forced to delete the Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort from his PowerPoint presentation in the wake of Disney Vacation Club's managerial shake-up?

Either way it will be interesting to see what sort of presence Disney Vacation Club has at the Expo in light of recent personnel changes and upheaval with the Aulani project
