Disney's Old Key West Resort
Renovations to guest rooms at Disney's Old Key West Resort are scheduled to begin in the spring of 2017 with the project lasting into the 2019 calendar year. Our sources indicate that this will be a full room renovation, impacting most areas of the unit including the bathroom and the kitchen.
Old Key West last went under the knife back in 2010. At the time, the modifications were the most extensive in the history of the then 20-year old property. However, many aspects of the room were left largely untouched. During that previous refurb, rooms received updated flooring, kitchen counters, upholstry and the addition of the fold-out sleeper chair. However bathrooms were left untouched and many furniture pieces were simply painted or otherwise refinished.
At the 2015 Condominium Association Meeting, executives revealed that DVC transitioned to a plan which would bring complete renovations to resorts every 14 years. From the outset, original projections had resorts operating for 24 years before any major renovations were performed.
Vero Beach renovated kitchen
The scope of the 2017 Old Key West refurbishment should more closely resemble work currently underway at Disney's Vero Beach Resort, a project which features complete bathroom renovations including new shower stall and the addition of a pedestal tub.
The Old Key West refurbishment is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2017 and last throughout 2019. Expect individual buildings to be removed from service one-at-a-time in order to minimize guest impact.

Throughout 2016, Disney Vacation Club plans to renovate no fewer than five of its thirteen resorts. Work is currently under way at Vero Beach, Disney's Beach Club Villas, Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort and Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas. Later this year, the Villas at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa are scheduled for a soft goods refurbishment including updates to floor coverings, wall coverings, bedding and upholstry.
